Since 2000 Navarra has made an ongoing and high-profile effort to increase and consolidate its activity in Research, Development and Innovation (R&D+i), both basic and applied. Navarra is above the national average and at the European Union level it stands alongside benchmark regions in R&D+i in strategic sectors such as renewable energies, biotechnology or nanotechnology.

The Science, Technology and Company System in Navarra covers all publicly and privately owned institutions and organisms that work on the generation of knowledge through research and development and/or the use of it in the productive sector.
